Lost the job... What should you do next?

We are experiencing global financial crisis. Most of us, in one way or  the other, are affected by this crisis. If you have been lucky, you may not have been directly affected by the crisis but there is always a risk of losing job- you never know.

Employers have found a good excuse to cut down on unwanted staff. If that's going to happen to you during the financial crisis, what will you do? If you have a bit of a saving in your bank, that's a bit of a consolation. If you don't have enough savings, you may be eligible for the umemployment benefit from the government but that's not going to be enough. Obviously the government never gives you enough, otherwise why should we work, right? To make things worse, if you are married and have kids to look after, then you sure need to find a way for some money.

What's the first thing that comes in our minds when we are out of job? Yes, we instantly say to ourselves, "I gotta find another job". Well there is nothing wrong with that statement. It's a rather common statement but I think that's where the problem lies. The commonness of "job hunting" doesn't make it so special. Job is a necessity and you gotta have one but the attitude of working for someone else never fully utilises your creativity and skills to make yourself totally independent. The idea of having to look for a job instead of creating an opportunity by yourself, based on your skills and experiences, constantly makes you a slave in a workforce.

I think we are not fully utilising our knowledge, skills and experiences to do something on our own, no matter how small the project is to start with. Isn't it something we should be thinking about?
