Arguments are not going to change anything....

Arguments are not going to change anything... Keep believing in what you think is right and at the same time keep investigating further. You are the only one who can change your own beliefs, no one else can impose it on you nor you can do it on others...

Help for a reason?

Thought of the day:

Isn't there enough FREE land on earth for each family, where we can build a house or cultivate the land? We have enough potential and resources to eliminate poverty. Despite all that development aid to developing countries, these countries have hardly progressed - perhaps partly due to the receiver's inability to manage the money but also because of the donors' intentions. Development aid is a political masquerade. I doubt there is a genuine help if it's done through the government level. It's politics and business.

"You support us in the UN security council and we HELP you build highways". That's not help. The first part of the statement is usually obscured and only the latter part is usually revealed for public consumption. We fall for that.

I survived...

My last post was about my dream that had a prediction of my death. The dream led me to a premonition that made me feel something may happen to me. It wasn't such a strong feeling but it had me thinking for few days.

Now I am back again. The dream has gone, the premonition passed without any effect. I survived the whole process. The death did not occur and I really don't know if this experience has changed something in me.

Are we free or are we slaves?

We all have certain interests but we sometimes get too carried away into something that we tend to become slaves to our own interests. We also unknowingly become slaves to things, people and ideas around us- money, material wealth, political views, consumerism and whatnot. You may say the word "slavery" is a bit intense in this context but you get the point.

We think we are free and live in a democratic nation but we don't even contemplate how we are being controlled and manipulated.

Today is my last day on earth?

Last week I had a dream. In my dream, a doctor advised me that August 30 is going to be my last day. When I woke up, I didn't panic at all but the dream got me thinking for a while. I believe dreams are just my subconscious trying to communicate with my conscious mind and perhaps suggesting something which I haven't been able to decipher. Perhaps my death means I will be reborn with a new mindset or something new is on the way.

I will wait and see if I open my eyes tomorrow morning.

Humanity is overrated

In general, we are only liked until we become useful to others. Even within the close relationships, this is usually true. Unconditionally loving or admiring someone is rarely found and is matter of "divine" luck to have that kind of relationship.

A fake Apple store in China

I've heard a lot about fake Chinese products and the bad quality ones but I don't recall hearing about a fake store. This week there has been an internet sensation about a fake Apple store in Kunming, China. A blogger, BirdAbroad, took photos of this fake Apple store and wrote a blog post about it.

The store has “Apple Store” written underneath the glowing apple icon. Usually Apple stores only have the apple icon with nothing written underneath or on the sides. So it's not a correct branding.

The blogger also wrote, 'The name tags around the necks of the friendly salespeople didn’t actually have names on them – just an Apple logo and the anonymous designation "Staff"'.

According to the blogger, it is not on the list of one of the authorised Apple resellers. It's not clear if the products they are selling are genuine Apple products. I read on another news article quoted an employee of the fake store saying their products are not fake. Fake products or not, the store seems to be a real fake. If you don't intend to sell fake products, why don't you obtain a reseller license? Then there won't be any dramas.

One of the signs has "Store" misspelled as "Stoer", hehe. Typo!

I don't understand what pride can they have from doing this?  It's absolutely uncreative and deliberately fooling people. I am already sick of crap products flooding the market. It's sad to see people going to that length to make some money.

What's next - a fake Steve Jobs?

A missed opportunity is not an opportunity

I wanna move forward and not be bothered by what I have missed. If I've missed an opportunity, I don't even want to consider that an opportunity - whether I missed that due to my own inabilities, carelessness or due to something totally beyond my control.

A missed opportunity is not an opportunity!

With the smile that comes with you.

Hunger is the root of all evil

I am beginning to think hunger is the worst thing there is for mankind. I am talking about the hunger for food and the empty stomach. If we could go on with an empty stomach, we would not even have to work to make a living, or at least we could work less.

My spontaneous thought about hunger... If we were not hungry, we would probably have less fear about our future. We would not have to worry about losing our jobs. Even if we lost jobs, that would have less impact on our lives.

We would be able to spend more time in creative activities if we did not have to worry about filling up our stomachs. We would require less money to survive. We would, in fact, value money less than what we are doing now. As a result, we would get less greedy and we may even start helping each other more.

People say money is the root of all evil. Perhaps it's the hunger that is the root of all evil.

The downside of not being hungry is we may become less progressive. We may become bored as we get less motivated to do something. We may become overly relaxed.

What do you say?

In fact there is blankness everywhere....

I am writing after a long absence from my blog... well about 3 months... Nevermind...

It's an odd feeling when I was travelling to work early this week, my mind was filled with confusion. I looked around in the hope to console myself. I saw people around me on the train. Some of them were standing while others sitting. A lady was sitting next to me on the seat. All I noticed in all of them is a mere blankness. Everyone was going to work to make a living. That's all there is.

Impatience and chaos

Saturday arvo.... I am sitting on my bed doing stuff on my laptop. Chinese New Year being celebrated few hundred metres from my place. I can hear music playing in the festival from my room. One of the busy roads is blocked for the day. I can hear vehicles whizzing past my place.

I can hear the distant sound of horns honking. Vehicles must be trapped on a busy traffic. As usual the drivers are getting impatient, well more than ever. But I am silently enjoying the chaos outside. I just heard a car coming to a screeching halt. Something must have gone wrong out there. LOL.

Organised chaos

Work From Anywhere
I stopped at the traffic lights and was waiting for the signal to cross the street. I saw a fleet of cars waiting for the lights to turn green. There were several rows of cars waiting. I looked at the drivers. I felt they were the slaves to the red and green lights. I felt I am enjoying a lot more freedom with my feet rather than sitting behind the wheel. I just found it funny to see the cars obeying the rules and could not help laughing silently.

Life in a suitcase

How would it feel living inside a box? I mean, only carrying a bare minimum to live your life... fit everything that you need in a suitcase... and walk around carrying your suitcase... take your life with you wherever you go...

I am not interested in accumulating unnecessary belongings. I sometimes think I would consider myself successful if I can fit my life in a suitcase. It really bothers me to own a lot of things and having to carry them with me when I move places. Everything a person really needs to survive is food, clothes, a place to live and a small company of good people. If I can fit food, clothes and few other things in a suitcase, I could consider myself lucky...

The caveman within me

Caveman dragging cavewoman by her hair
Everyday we conform to things around us such as etiquettes, social norms and laws. These have become quite essential for functioning in a modern society. I feel the downside is, they have made our lives more complicated and artificial. It seems like we have to think twice before speaking with someone. We are called uncivilised if we do not know the table manners. There are ways to dress-up while attending job interviews and to present yourself. You have to pretend to be confident even when you are not.

I am not trying to despise all this. I wish I could but this is part of our time. We just have to accept it or at least try to lower the impact of it.

Does time exist everywhere?

Time is a measure of gradual change from the past to the present to the future. Past, present and future exist where there is someone or something to physically observe the events. Hence the existence of time truly makes sense where there is an observer.

In our physical universe, we can easily conclude that time exists. (Obviously, I am not talking about the hours, minutes and seconds that a clock represents. That is something totally different- a man-made system to measure time.) We are constantly observing the flow of events from our past to our present to our future. We analyse, become judgemental and make predictions.

Change and being "me"

Change is inevitable. You like it or not, you end up changing. You can't stay without changing. Change is simply a part of life. But you can certainly control the frequency and amount of change you want to bring. Sometimes you may need to moderate the prospective change to prevent it from interfering your being who you are.

I don't prevent changes to occur in my life. I am liberal enough to allow changes to occur but only to a certain extent. A change may help to improve our situations and lifestyles in better ways. If the changes start twisting your reality and force you to become somebody else, then you may need to think twice before accepting the changes. A change might cause you to lose your uniqueness and make you just another ordinary being who blindly follows the worldly rules.

Did China truly celebrate 60 years of communism?

I was watching news on television about China's grand celebration to mark 60 years of communism. They have proudly displayed their military might and they celebrated their progress in science and technology, sports, education and economy. On a sour note, most Chinese were not allowed to go out and participate in the celebrations. They had to watch the festivities on television. Even the kites were banned to prevent aerial hazards- whatever that is supposed to mean.

Wife vs Computer

My wife has an utter dislike towards my computer. I must admit I spend hours on computer every day. She has even personified the computer as my "second wife" but is yet to give it a name. She takes my computer as her mortal enemy. She claims it is always between me and her.

Whenever my computer slows down or has problems, I see a glow in my wife's face. She looks very happy and sometimes she starts clapping and says in a total relief, "Good it's not working. I feel so happy. I hope it doesn't work anymore."

I never thought a computer could cause so much stir in my life. When I sleep, I have my computer on my side-table next to the bed. I leave it on all night. If I happen to wake up at night, I quickly turn it on and start browsing the net. No wonder my wife hates it. She sometimes wakes up and forcefully turns it off. Perhaps I am a real computer addict.

Is computer taking over your life? Is computer affecting your relationship?
